Went back to the SMWS Queen St. again for a wee rest after hiking up Arthur’s Seat with Lisa and Jeff. Fewer better places in Edinburgh to regain your composure, even if to lose it again.

July102011
Swung by Queen St. last monday to show some in-town friends the SMWS. Got to try some of the July outturns, and one brilliant recommendation by the staff.
Cask No. G8.1, Light, Bright and Agreeable
Cask No. 76.83, Cocktails after Rugby
Cask No. 125.45, Complex and Thought Provoking
First time I’ve tried the Grain series and found it delicious and a great way to start the evening. 76.83 was very light as well and could detect a bit of cucumber as in the notes. The most surprising though was 125.45, an islay whisky that tasted more or less like cherries in molasses. Surprisingly low peat on that one as well.

Nose: Spicy, Hot Cinnamon Candy with a hint of Chocolate Fudge Brownies and Anise.
Taste: Soft Mouthfeel, spicy and sweet at the same time with mild anise, buttery toffee with a hint of butterscotch and lipstick.
Finish: Medium Dry, Hot Cinnamon candy, light coconut and a very light black licorice and cherry.  I would say anise, but it definitely reminded me of black licorice.  Spicy and sweet, with a light peppery finish.
Watered: Nose reminded of a fun day in candy store. The cinnamon was diminished but with a cotton candy, cherry and light tobacco taste.
This is an incredibly easy to drink whisky either straight or on the rocks.  It does not need water.  However water brings out other fine characteristics.  This whisky, I believe will enhance a Manhatten or other mixed drinks.  I abosolutely love it either straight, with water, on the rocks or in a Manhatten.  Wow!
